The Psychiatric Technician, under the supervision of a registered nurse, performs selected patient care activities and participates in the multidisciplinary team. Works without direct supervision on specific areas of responsibility, facilities transfer of patients to the inpatient unit, runs group therapies and one to one interactions with patients, reports and documents patient observations and behavior, participates as a PERT (Psychiatric Emergency Response Team) member in the Emergency Department. Provides assessment, communication of information crisis intervention, and facilitation of disposition as determined by the Emergency Department Physician and the psychiatrist on call. The inventory, distribution/delivery of medications may be required.
BA or BS in Behavioral Sciences field (e.g. psychology, social work) or two or more years experiences in mental health field may be substituted for BA or BS degree in Behavioral Sciences.
High School or four-year technical graduate.
Must have current Maryland Certified Nursing Assistant licensure or other DHMH licensure and CPR.
