Salisbury urologist and one of the surgical founders of the Peninsula Institute of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Mark Edney, MD, will testify in Washington, DC on Wednesday, June 27 before the United States Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Dr. Edney is speaking at the request of the committee’s Chairman, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), in support of a bill she is sponsoring. It requests medical coverage through the Veterans’ Affairs system to provide infertility treatment for soldiers who have suffered genitourinary trauma resulting in infertility. Dr. Edney, who is a member of the US Army Reserve and has served a tour in Iraq/Afghanistan, was asked to testify because of his knowledge of the disorder and for his expertise as a surgeon who has treated these types of injuries in soldiers on the front line. Dr. Edney, the 2012 American Urology Association’s Gallagher Health Policy Scholar, is a partner at Peninsula Urology Associates, PA in Salisbury, and has held privileges at PRMC since 2004.
