Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) in Salisbury, MD has been recognized by Premier, Inc. for reducing preventable hospital-acquired conditions and readmissions, as part of the federal Partnership for Patients initiative. Through the Partnership for Patients, Premier’s hospital engagement network (HEN) is working with more than 400 hospitals to reduce preventable readmissions by 20 percent and preventable hospital-acquired conditions by 40 percent from January 2012 – December 2014. As a member of Premier’s HEN, PRMC is one of just two Maryland hospitals and among only 35 hospitals across the U.S. to be honored with a Citation of Merit for the Premier Partnership for Patients Award for early success in reaching its reduction goals. Peninsula Regional, the lone recipient on the Delmarva Peninsula, was recognized today during Premier’s annual Breakthroughs Conference and Exhibition in San Antonio. “Participation in this initiative reinforces our commitment to reliably deliver an exceptional care experience to our community,” said Dr. Peggy Naleppa, MS, MBA, FACHE, President/CEO. “We’re proud to receive the Premier Partnership for Patients Award as we continue down our path of population health management, which includes reducing HACs and readmissions.” Specifically, PRMC has met and/or exceeded the Partnership for Patients reduction goals in the following areas: blood stream infections, stage III or IV pressure ulcers, surgical site infections (colon/hysterectomy), ventilator associated pneumonia and venous thrombolytic embolisms. “Peninsula Regional Medical Center is a prime example of performance improvement in healthcare,” said Wes Champion, Senior Vice President of Premier Performance Partners. “Through commitment, transparency, trust and engagement they are collaborating with peers to create a culture of safe, reliable and coordinated care. We are constantly amazed by these accomplishments. Premier congratulates Dr. Naleppa and the entire PRMC healthcare team for their hard work and tremendous achievements.” Premier is the second largest HEN in the Partnership for Patients initiative working at the regional, state, national and hospital system level to identify solutions to reduce HACs and readmissions, and spread best practices and resources to other healthcare providers. Participants collaborate to:
- Transparently share progress on a set of uniform measures on a regular basis;
- Share best practices and successful innovations with all members of the HEN; and
- Commit to participate in educational initiatives and site visits.
