Runners take off from Peninsula Regional Medical Center's Avery W. Hall Educational Center in the inaugural Roots Run DNA 5K to raise funds for PRMC's genetic counseling service.
Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute will hold its annual 5K run/walk on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the Avery W. Hall Educational Center on the campus of PRMC. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. Timed runners will take off at 8:00 a.m., with walkers and fun runners stepping off at 8:15 a.m.
Registration is online at www.peninsula.org/RootsRun. The first 100 registrants will receive an event t-shirt; the top three men and women finishers will earn a medal. Registration is $25; students who register with a valid ID the day of the event are $15, and children 10 and under are free. Pets are welcome for a $5 fee and will receive a goodie bag. An after-race party includes food, prizes, music and children’s activities.
The Roots Run DNA 5K is the sole funding for the Cancer Risk Assessment and Genetic Counseling Program that the Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute at PRMC provides free of charge to those who qualify. The service is vital for those who have a close relative with cancer, especially those diagnosed before the age of 50 With cancer causing the death of more than half a million Americans each year, awareness of increased risk, and knowing what to do about, can be a lifeline. It is important to note that 100 percent of the net proceeds from the 2014 Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute Roots Run DNA 5K will stay right here on Delmarva, helping our friends and neighbors.
